Hello! It's later than I thought it would be, but here's my Christmas story
for this year. It's a tradition I've tried to keep alive despite it always
driving me round the bend. A couple of years ago I wrote one featuring the
first Doctor Who, The Ever So Helpful Salesman,
and last year Sarah Hadley provided one for the current incarnation, The Christmas Ornament.
This year, and I may be slightly misguided, I've written a sequel to the
infamous, un-made movie adventure Doctor
Who Meets Scratchman.
This was a story devised by the wonderful actor behind the
fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, which would have seen him and his companions pitted
against the Devil himself and his dark forces. I've imagined that one of the
Doctor's allies in such an adventure would be the head of a local women's
institute, as played by Margaret Rutherford (Tom Baker had lots of ideas for
the series, and one of them was to have a much older woman as his
companion).
The winter after this summer blockbuster, Scratchman is
having a second go, and of course Peggy is the first to cotton on to his evil -
but I hope there are some fun surprises along the way.

Enjoy!

Margaret Rutherford would have made a marvellous Time Lady, rattling around the universe with a tin dog, a TARDIS stuck in the shape of Gothic mausoleum, a carpet bag that's bigger on the inside, and a sonic spyglass.
ReplyDeleteHurrah! Thanks for this, Nick. I'm going to read it this evening with a mug of mulled wine and a mince pie! George
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it, George. The mulled wine may help...
DeleteMiss Hawthorne and Amelia Rumford ~ the only further addition would have been Amelia Ducat painting the whole mise-en-scene! Most enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed it, Robin. I'm not quite as attached to Amelia Ducat but I agree, she is notable by her absence here...
DeleteAnd yes, Margaret would have been amazing, zooming through the universe with her faithful companion, Mr Stringer, investigating ghostly stories on Venus and Skaro, pulling a face when roused.
